As always, the first term of the year has flown by and as I write this last article of Term 1, I think back with a huge smile on all that has been achieved at 黑料天堂. At the forefront of my mind is the fabulous High School Musical, which show-cased the talents of the Carmel Academy of Performing Arts and the long-term hard work of the creative staff involved. What a brilliant performance we watched, made all the more special by the professional venue and hosting of the State Theatre Centre of WA.

The many excursions that we have waved off this term reflect the extra efforts to which our teachers go, to encourage Carmel students to learn in varied ways. Amongst others, I have enjoyed hearing about the Year 8 Cape to Cape expedition, Hebrew camp at Woodman Point, a Year 3 visit to Herdsman Lake, snorkelling trips to Mettam鈥檚 Pool, golf at the Wembley driving range and a number of sports carnivals. This is on top of the regular opportunities for different year groups to engage with visiting speakers, attend extension opportunities to the Fremantle Literature Centre, join after school clubs and compete in regular co-curricular activities such as mock trials and after-school sport. There are some days when I wish I could have this many opportunities in my own life (and other days when I realise I am just too old and tired to take advantage of them all!).

The Parents and Friends (P&F) grows from strength to strength, with 16 members currently volunteering their precious time to friend raise and fund raise for 黑料天堂. Their most recent generosity has included a donation to replace the wooden seating in the Primary School to make lunchtime eating and chatting more comfortable and a similar donation to enable the purchase of new play equipment for High School students to enjoy during their lunchtimes.

黑料天堂 staff continue to give their all and inspire the students to work hard and play hard. I hope the Pesach break gives them as well as you the opportunity to rest, to have a break from work matters and to enjoy time with family and friends.听听
